Friday Favorites

Ok, so it’s now Saturday, but only by a few minutes. Here’s my favorite thing for this week. (I’ll try to do better to write posts other than lists of favorite things.)

1. Wing Stop
I absolutely LOVE wing stop!! It’s one of my favorite things to get. I normally get the regular hot wings and sometimes the terrioky. And the fries, ohhhhh the fries. I’m pretty sure they use something illegal to season them they’re so addicting. Well, actually it’s just sugar and salt…but still. awesome.

2. Jimmy Fallon – Friday Night “Thank You notes”
Every Friday night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, he does this thing called Thank You Notes. I always look forward to this. I can’t really explain why, but I just think it’s super funny. (Watch some for yourself here.) Jimmy Fallon is one of my favorite people to watch. I never like his opening monologue, but I love watching his interaction with the guests, audience, and all the crazy games he plays on his show.

3. Board games
I learned a new game tonight called Settlers(I think this is right?). Boy is it fun, but it sure does bring out the competitive side of me.

4. Menchies
In the past couple years or so Frozen Yogurt seems to have really become popular. Maybe it’s been popular before that, but not that I was aware. I first went to a frozen yogurt place in Denton with some friends and I really enjoyed it. But, there’s this place called Menchies that I just really love. Their frozen yogurt is just really good, they have tons of options of toppings, and the places is just very vibrant and fun to be in. It’s great for a summer day like today. Oh wait, it’s February, but it was in the 80s today! Wow! But great for frozen yogurt!

5. Barnes & Noble

I know that there are so many better places than Barnes & Noble. Places that are more homey, less mainstream or whatever, and I know that there’s not anything particularly special about B&N. But nevertheless, it’s still one of my favorite places. I think this is because I’ve made so many good memories of hanging out with a friend(s) talking about anything and everything in the cafe area looking at magazines and roaming the store finding books and movies that seem interesting.

All right, well that’s all for this week. Hopefully I’ll be able to think of something to write about and remember to do it. I’m going to try to write more often!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Ok, so a lot of the blogs I follow do some kind of post every Friday, basically  listing some of their favorite things. So, I thought that would be fun to do! Yes, I know it’s Sunday. In fact, I started writing this post on Friday and forgot all about it. So instead of a Friday thing, this time it will just be a way to kick off the week! Here’s my list:

1. My family.

2. My Friends. These are my best friends, and I am so greatful to have great people in my life that I am so close with. In fact, much of what I write about will probably have to do with them. We go way back. Kristen and I have known each other since Kindergarden and best friends since first grade when we were in the same class at school. I have many pictures from back then (I’ll save that for another day). It’s crazy to think that the number of years I’ve been best friends with her is more than the number of years I didn’t even know who she was. But it’s awesome! I’ve known Jennifer since her family moved here from Tennessee in 5th grade (I think that’s right?), and eventually came to my church. I really don’t remember how we became friends, but it just kind of happened. We are complete opposites in many ways, but I think that’s why we became best friends. Last, I’ve known Michele for, well, most of my life I guess, but we didn’t really become friends until 8th or 9th grade. We have both gone to the same church our whole lives so I’ve known her for about that long. Out of everyone I’m probably most like Michele when it comes to personality, which is good but can be bad since we are both very indecisive and not very outgoing without the help of someone else. But yes, these are my best friends. I’m so grateful to know that these are lifelong friends.

3. Laughter. This is a pretty general thing, but it really is one of my favorite things. This one also ties into my first two things on the list. There’s nothing better than spending a lot of time with people just laughing about anything and everything. Even better are those times that you laugh so hard, you feel like you’re about to die. (You can’t catch a breath and tears are streaming down your face.) That’s the best.

4. My new college friends. Although I am not at UNT this school year I am so glad that I have such good friends in Denton, whom even though I don’t see much, I consider them some of my newer best friends. They are truly what made my first year of college an amazing experience and I can’t wait to be back with them all the time! So much fun with these people! I love them!

5. Pride and Prejudice. There really isn’t much I can say other than how much I LOVE this movie!! I watch it all the time no matter what I’m doing or what kind of a mood I’m in. Ah. So. Stinkin’. Good. This will definitely be a repeat in my favorite things lists.

Hibernation 2011

Extreme winter weather giving a taste of home to Packers and Steelers fans.

Last week, the DFW area experienced weather  that shut down everything. Temperatures were well below freezing with a wind-chill at one point below 0, and with ice and snow on the ground. With the forecast of ice and snow coming in over night, most people expected schools to be cancelled Tuesday, but no one expected it to turn into a 4 day hibernation. Hibernation was indeed what it was for every student, their parents, and many others whose plans were cancelled. Temperatures never even came close to above freezing and we even got more snow early Friday morning. And to add to the fun, this all happened the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

4 Days off of school; every kid’s(in my case, College Student) dream right? Well, not leaving the house and limiting your social interaction to just your family for several days gets old after awhile. It wasn’t all bad though. Here’s my pro and con list about 4 snow days.

Las Colinas Mustangs covered in snow and ice.

The good:

1. No School! It was like a pre-spring break!
2. Extra time to do homework
3. Watching a lot of Gilmore girls. My favorite show, and the perfect show for
snow a snow day! Ok, it’s perfect for any day, but especially snow days!
4. Watching the pretty snow! Even though it causes a lot of havoc here in Texas, I still enjoy the rare snow we get!
5. Hot Chocolate….and marshmallows, lots of marshmallows.
6. Wearing your PJ’s and sweats all the time.

The bad:
1. You can never get warm.
2. You don’t get to see many people.
3. You start to go crazy. I felt a little bit like ‘David After Dentist’. Is this real life??
4. There’s inches of ice on the road, so you can’t go anywhere.
5.  You go crazy. Did I say that already? Well, it’s a big one.

Despite all the craziness of not going anywhere for a week, things did indeed warm up over the weekend, and I was able to be a part of civilization once again. But wouldn’t you know that as we come out of hibernation we are expecting more sleet and snow starting at midnight tonight??? Will this be another snow day? We’ll see.

What to expect tomorrow.
